Walk Strong Foundation is a nonprofit medical humanitarian organization which provides knee and hip replacements at no cost to patients in developing and underserved countries. Walk Strong’s medical teams of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and support volunteers are committed to helping those in need by relieving pain, restoring their mobility, self-dignity, productivity and return to a normal life.
The Walk Strong Foundation Core Mission is made up of four components:
Service – Walk Strong performs total joint replacements (total hip, total knee, and total shoulder replacements) for disadvantaged patients in the developing world at no cost to the recipient.
Education – Walk Strong teaches local physicians, nurses, physical therapists and hospital support staff the necessary skills to be able to perform the joint replacement procedures independently. Limited scholarship opportunities will be made available for study in the U.S. for selected medical practitioners.
Building Infrastructures – Walk Strong works with our partner Project Cure to build the hospital and clinic infrastructures to allow local hospital staff to continue to perform these procedures and care for the patients.
Sustained Commitment – Walk Strong makes a long term (ten year) commitment to each site so that the education and supply of equipment will enable the programs to become self-sustaining. This commitment also allows us long term follow-up of our patients to insure that their outcomes are equivalent to the outcomes at our home hospitals.
